FACES 1944-49 PrintFest 2016

Efpraxia Georgarou, ''Yiannis Moralis-Caricature Version'', Soft Ground Etching and Aquatint, 2016

Metamatic:taf has the pleasure to collaborate once again with the Greek Printmakers’ Association in the context of the Athens Print Fest, the international festival of engraving and printmaking, hosting the exhibitions Illusions and Reality and Faces 1944-1949. Athens Print Fest takes place every three years in Athens and constitutes a meeting for cultural agencies focusing on engraving and printmaking and, particularly, on innovative creations from Greece and abroad. The aim is to generate an international artistic dialogue around the concerns and explorations in contemporary engraving. Faces act as a field for recording feelings, as a place to deposit experiences, a screen that receives and projects the memory of each moment of the journey of one's life. The face keeps track of time. The exhibition attempts a composition of imprints of faces belonging to people that left a distinct trace in the history of Greece. The participating artists, students at Fine Arts School of Florina, chose persons that lived, emerged or began their career within the historical period 1944-1949. Each artist from his or her perspective looked for elements in the personal lives of those people, approaching their temperament and history. They engraved on metal, and subsequently, printed faces like those of Yannis Ritsos, Nikos Kavvadias, Nikos Eggonopoulos, Manolis Anagnostakis, Yiannis Moralis, Lela Karagiannis, Elli Pappa, Markos Vafeiadis, Sotiria Bellou, Yannis Xenakis and many others. Participating artists: Stergios Adam, Vicky Vasileiou, Lefteris Valetzas, Kalianthi Vogdopoulou, Nikos Voutselas, Efpraxia Georgarou, Roman Zouev, Kalypso Theodoreskou, Maria Kapantzaki, Polychronis Karachalios, Theodora Kompou, Georgia Kontou, Aimilia Kotzaoglanidou, Emmanouil Kteniadakis, Chara Lappa, Agapi Mantziori, Valentini Mavrodoglou, Platon Boudakidis, Efpraxia Bantazou, Themis Papapanagiotou, Ariadni Pediotaki, Tsiabarta Chrystalla, Aggelina Tsoumani, Antonia Flegga, Anastasia Charalampous, Georgios Christou Curated by: Dimitra Siaterli Address: Normanou 5 , Athens 105 55 , Monastiraki
